Ford Electrifies the Focus in 2012

There are a number of reasons why we here at John Bleakley Ford love the Focus. The compact model from Ford is efficient, well designed, and reliable. But as if there weren't enough reasons already to love it, Ford is giving us one more in 2012. More specifically, the American automaker is giving as an electric reason to love it.

Too cheesy? Alright, we'll just get to the point. In 2012 Ford is planning to release the all new Focus EV. The vehicle is heavily based on the already popular Ford Focus, but it manages to take efficiency and design to the next level. This move represents the next logical step for Ford, as the company's previous entry into the green market with the Ford Fusion Hybrid was met with critical and commercial success.

Aside from packing an impressive 100+ MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) range, the Ford Focus EV employs some other impressive technologies. For instance, it will feature the lauded MyFord Touch as well as a MyFord Mobile information systems, and the vehicle will be able to recharge up to 30 miles on its battery within the first 30 minutes of being plugged in. Impressed? We know we are!

The 2012 Ford Focus EV is able to pack such impressive stats because it features a 23 kW lithium-ion battery pack, connected to 130 horsepower motor under its hood. This also allows the Ford Focus EV to reach a top speed of around 80 miles per hour, while staying temperate with its  liquid cooling and heating thermal management system.

While the Ford Focus EV is a great next step in the right direction for Ford, we can't honestly say that we're shocked by its development... Okay, that's the last time... Promise.
