Advanced WiFi and GPS systems currently being worked on by Ford UK will one day allow cars to communicate with other vehicles on roads. Just imagine the possibilities.

The technology is being demonstrated by Ford Motor Co. at The Washington Auto Show. The system sends out multiple messages per second about a vehicle's location, speed, braking and steering. Ford claims to have been working on "intelligent vehicles" for 10 years now.

Due to growing demand, Ford Motor Co. is planning to grow production for deliveries to its U.S. dealers like John Bleakley in Lithia Springs, GA by 13 percent in the first quarter of 2011. To sustain that leap, it may have to add third shifts to some of its plants. Ford used a similar tactic last year, adding overtime shifts at select plants to sustain a 20 percent production increase.
